Dear Friends of Dick Stodghill,

Wanting to keep Dick’s memory alive in all of us, Marie Pacha and I have decided we wanted to honor him with an anthology based on the things Dick liked and disliked most: from broccoli to mysteries. In keeping with that theme, we are inviting you to submit short stories and poems on topics of interest to Dick.

After nearly ten months of writing, I happy to say I've finished my latest novel. And, after taking another couple of weeks for edits, I sent queries, two by snail mail as instructed, and two by email. Now it's nail-biting time.

If anyone's interested, I'll post what happens.

Now to come up with another idea. I never thought I'd go blank, but right now I don't have a clue. Maybe it's too soon after working on the other, I don't know, but I hope I have a brilliant idea soon.

Instead of derailing the thread zizban started in the What Are You Reading thread, I thought I'd start a new one here about movies you've seen that are worth watching again and again.

I cannot seem to look away when any of these movies come on t.v.:

While You Were Sleeping (romantic comedy)

    Jaws (horror)

     Shawshank Redemption (drama)

  Roadhouse (just good fun)

The Lord of The Rings trilogy (fantasy)

My latest novel, Beyond the Quiet, was released a couple of months ago by a small, indie publisher, and they've done a great job so far. They provided a beautiful cover - at least I think so - and the actual quality of the book is fantastic.

They handled the copyright, assigned ISBN numbers, obtained a FCC number, and worked closely with me during the process. I was truly impressed.

My numbers on Amazon and B&N have gone up and down during the two months, and while the publisher ...

Because of my dismal royalty checks, I've been asking a lot of questions. One of my author friends has been published by the mainstream publishers for years, and I asked her about print runs. Some small publishers were offended by some of my comments about POD publishing as opposed to print runs, so I asked an expert:

Me:

I've been having a few discussions with some newbie writers and most are saying that it's no better for an author to sign with a mainstream publisher than a small indie.

I recently had occassion to wonder what is happening to creditabilty, honesty and just plain fair play? I made a deal with a woman some two years ago after editing the worst so called manuscript I have ever come across. The pages had so much red pen on them it looked as though I'd bled all over them. Sent it back to this woman and received a call awhile later with her moaning and and groaning about how she couldn't fix the manuscript herself because she couldn't spell, punctuate or put two sentences ...

Two women friends had gone for a girls' night out. Both were very faithful and loving wives, however they had gotten over-enthusiastic on the Bacardi Breezers.

Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee, so they stopped in the cemetery.

One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her panties and use them..

Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them.

The other is from our own Sue:

My husband, John, loves his horse. He feeds her every night at the same time...without fail. Until...one night when he picked up DJ Stephens' book, Tarnished Halo. He was just going to glance at the first page and read it later in the evening. That did not happen.

I was perusing Facebook a couple days ago and came upon my old 10th grade English teacher. Her name was Mrs. Pickens and she was very, very strict. Her class was difficult and I think I barely got by with a C. She was all business and I don't think she really related to us average kids as much as she did with all the smart ones, not me by the way. I always bombed the literature portion of her class, *SNORE*, probably because it bored me to death. Literature was nothing like a hot, naughty romance ...

My husband finished reading Tarnished Halo the beginning of January, 2010. Why is that noteworthy? Because he doesn't normally read books: newspapers and magazines, yes; books, no.

Over the years my husband has pounded into my head that his horses must be fed at a certain time each day. This information is important because it plays a definite role in why DJ Stephen's book, Tarnished Halo, could change your behavior.

One evening my husband was dressed and ready to walk out the door to ...
