Tarnished Halo by DJ Stephens
My husband finished reading Tarnished Halo the beginning of January, 2010. Why is that noteworthy? Because he doesn't normally read books: newspapers and magazines, yes; books, no.
Over the years my husband has pounded into my head that his horses must be fed at a certain time each day. This information is important because it plays a definite role in why DJ Stephen's book, Tarnished Halo, could change your behavior.
One evening my husband was dressed and ready to walk out the door to feed Susie-Too. He looked at the clock and noticed he had a few minutes before he felt he needed to be in the barn. John picked up his copy of Tarnished Halo and opened it to the first page. Two hours later he went to the barn to feed his horse.
"It sucked me in on the first page," he stated when I asked him why he read instead of fed. "I couldn't put it down."
John keeps telling me the action is realistic. He feels he is in the middle of it. Every time I read a book or manuscript that disappoints me, he hands me Tarnished Halo and tells me I need to read it; that I will not be disappointed in it. I can think of no higher praise for a book or an author than to have a non-book reader mesmerized by their words on a page.
Keep up the good work, DJ! You're doing something right!

Wow Sue, what a grand compliment for Don. I sent a copy to my Uncle also a war veteran of 32 years. He is in the middle somewhere and his comment was, it made him shiver in places when the action was all too real, jolted his own memories of this terrible time in his life. I just finished editing a manuscript so can start reading it myself tomorrow.

John keeps saying he feels as though he is in the middle of everything. I asked him if that is why he appeared to be ducking one night when he was reading. He just grinned. I don't think Don can turn out his books fast enough for John. I would love to see Don's books, all of them, on bookshelves and for more people to have the enjoyment my husband receives from them.
